“Comedy & Creative Writing"

Participants will spend the first half of this workshop working on their own comedy or creative writing piece. This can be for a performance set or for your own personal or professional development, you have the freedom to choose your topic & style (comedy or creative), the second half of this workshop will be focused on workshopping & polishing what was written with the group. Writer’s choice on performing their piece or reading it back to the group to receive feedback.

NOTE: This workshop creates the ensemble that will perform in the Playprov Showcase on Saturday, October 10th, 7pm call, 7:30pm show at the Gem Theater. PLEASE do not sign up if you know you cannot commit to performing in the show.
Focus: Playback Theatre • Storytelling • Deep Listening • Ensemble • Audience Connection
PlayProv explores how the principles of Playback Theatre can enrich and deepen improvisation.
Participants learn to work with real-life stories shared by audience members, transforming those stories into spontaneous performances through deep listening, embodied reflection, empathy, and imagination.
The workshop combines structured storytelling activities, guided improvisations, and Playback Theatre techniques to explore how improvisers can move beyond simply entertaining an audience toward creating meaningful moments of shared connection.
Each performance becomes an act of co-creation: someone offers a story, the ensemble listens, and together they discover what the story might become on stage.
